Access to and participation in education

The Schools Division of Baguio City has 45 public elementary schools and 21 public secondary schools.

The City Government support the Division through the presence of partners and donors for the scholarship program to the deserving students and awards and recognition are given to those teaching and nonteaching staffs who are performing well. Books are procured under the Special Education Fund (SEF) which are currently used by learners.

For the enhancement of Open High School Program (OHSP) and Drop-Out Reduction Program (DORP) the Division is strengthening its existing division based educational program. Moreover, technical assistance regarding such are given to those personnel in accordance to the deliverance of the program.

Pilot special programs in identified elementary schools are even established for the improvement of the learners and that trainings are also given to teachers teaching in the special programs.

Quality of Education

With the high percentage of filled plantilla the Division continuously capacitates all hired personnel through scholarships, seminars, training and other human development programs. And potential personnel are tapped as facilitators or trainers.

In responding to the needs of the schools the Division strengthens its education planning and coordination in order to gain budgetary support.

With those schools with notably highest National Achievement Test (NAT) Mean Percentage Score (MPS) they are to mentor or coach schools with the lowest NAT MPS.

Education Outcomes and External Effectiveness

Setting ICT as fundamental tool to be at par with the information technology-driven educational community to be able to track learners.

The Division maintained a roster of potential partners and donors to be invited during the education congress or any related activities to strengthen linkages between parties.

Learners are given opportunities to excel academically and improve their personality towards their utmost potentials through the department’s special programs.

Managerial and Institutional Aspects

For the provision of long term reforms in the education sector notwithstanding the fast changing demands of local environment support of Local Government Unit on various DepEd-Baguio Programs the division unceasingly strengthens its School-based Management Program and deepens it linkages. Continuous improvement and strategic in management of schools and learning centers for which teaching and learning takes place for the development of the division processes and operations.

With the full implementation of the K-12 program the division is hiring competent senior high school teachers to be able to develop competent learners as well.
